Business Takes Action Presents Network and Knowledge Exchange series on the Aging Workforce
IN PARTNERSHIP WITH:
Business Takes Action and Workplace Safety & Prevention Services will provide a network and knowledge exchange series on the Aging Workforce : Is it Still Safe to Climb the Corporate Ladder? Round table discussions focus on topics like health & safety issues, updates on legislation, and sharing best practices in health & safety. Participants receive current information that helps them meet or exceed legislative requirements.
The facilitated discussion topic will be "The Aging Workforce".
SESSION OUTLINE
The average age of retirement in Canada is 62. However, with the elimination of mandatory retirement, employees are now working well into their 60’s, 70’s, 80’s and even 90’s either out of preference or financial necessity Consequently, how safe is your workplace and how do you advise an employee that it is no longer safe to climb the ladder?
Statistics Canada predicts that by 2016, the demand for skilled workers will outpace supply. Changes in labour supply have been affected by an aging population (longer life expectancy), falling fertility rates (Canada has one of the lowest fertility rates in the world) and immigration levels (Canada needs to attract skilled and professional workers). With the mass exodus of baby boomers, businesses need to remain competitive and explore all talent pools especially the under represented workers.
Topics will include:
- the new generation of worker "will work to live versus the live to work"
- for the first time in history, five generations are working side by side
- how to make the job fit for the older worker with flexibility
- learn best practices to prepare for changing workplace demographics
- the myths and stereotypes concerning older workers
- how to attract, engage and retain graying, mature workers
Please join us to discuss the ideas, challenging situations, and concerns you face during this one hour workshop. Q & A included
